Pada tahun **20XX**, umat manusia akhirnya mengetahui keberadaan para **roh**, serta munculnya orang-orang yang mampu menggunakan kekuatan mereka—dikenal sebagai **Pengguna Roh** (*Spirit Users*). Kekuatan ini membawa kemajuan besar bagi peradaban manusia, namun juga memunculkan kegelapan baru, ketika ada yang menyalahgunakannya untuk kejahatan.
Di tengah situasi itu, **Yui Shinonome**, seorang pegawai kantoran yang ditindas habis-habisan hingga dipecat oleh perusahaan tempatnya bekerja, mendapatkan kekuatan roh secara tak terduga.
Sebelum sempat memahami apa yang terjadi, Yui sudah terseret ke dalam konflik antar Pengguna Roh dan akhirnya direkrut menjadi anggota **Bureau of Fairy Affairs (BFA)** — lembaga pemerintah yang menangani kasus-kasus terkait roh. Dari situlah awal kehidupannya yang penuh dengan insiden aneh dan berbahaya dimulai.
Awalnya, Yui mengira ia hanya direkrut sebagai pegawai bagian administrasi. Namun ternyata, ia dipasangkan dengan **Mio Shinohara**, agen BFA paling bermasalah — berbakat luar biasa, tapi keras kepala dan suka bertindak semaunya hingga membuat semua rekan kerjanya sebelumnya mundur satu per satu.
Meski sering bertengkar dan berbeda pandangan, hubungan Yui dan Mio perlahan tumbuh menjadi ikatan yang mendalam. Hingga akhirnya Yui mengetahui masa lalu kelam Mio — kedua orang tuanya dibunuh oleh orang yang menyalahgunakan kekuatan roh, dan sejak saat itu ia hanya hidup demi balas dendam.
Lebih jauh lagi, terkuak pula bahwa roh yang memberikan kekuatan pada Yui bukanlah roh biasa… melainkan **mantan Raja Roh**, yang dulu dikhianati dan kehilangan nyawanya.
Mengetahui semua itu, Yui bertekad bulat: **ia akan naik ke puncak, dan merebut hati wanita yang ia cintai.**
